Kreuzau is situated on the right bank of the Rur at the point where the river emerges from the North Eifel hills and enters the Düren-Jülich plain. The local geography is characterized by steep, scenic valleys and lowland areas ("Börde"). Kreuzau offers considerable potential for tourism. Thanks to its good transportation infrastructure, it is also an attractive location for a broad spectrum of commercial enterprises.
